Gaza is not just a headline. It’s a human catastrophe — unfolding in real time.
Tens of thousands of civilians killed. Journalists. Aid workers. Children. Whole families buried under rubble. Hospitals targeted. Food and water cut off. And now, famine.
Humanitarian aid has been cut off or severely restricted, leaving millions without access to food, medicine, or fuel. The situation is spiralling.
No political slogan can justify that.
Yes — Hamas is a terrorist organisation. The October 7 attacks were brutal, targeted civilians, and must be condemned without hesitation.
But Israel’s response has gone far beyond self-defence. It has become collective punishment. That is not justice. It’s a war crime — and history will remember it as such.
What Should Australia Do?
We should not be silent.
We should not be neutral in the face of mass civilian slaughter.
And we should not allow party politics or international pressure to prevent us from speaking clearly.
As your representative, I would push for the following:
- An immediate and permanent ceasefire.
- Full humanitarian access — food, water, medical aid, and rebuilding supplies.
- Accountability for war crimes — on all sides.
- Australia should speak with its own voice — guided by international law, human dignity, and a clear sense of right and wrong.
A Note on Faith
Some people have tried to frame this war in religious terms. But I keep coming back to the figure of Jesus — a refugee himself, who healed the sick and stood with the poor.
I don’t believe he’d ever bless the bombing of hospitals or the starving of children.
To me, faith — if it means anything — means standing with those who are suffering. Not looking away.
I’m not here to echo the talking points of either side. I’m here to speak plainly.
Australia must do better. And we must be on the side of peace, humanity, and justice — always.
